On December 27th and 28th, a shorthanded Varsity Men's Basketball team took the court of the Riverside Holiday Tournament.
The Warriors opened play against the Bowie Bears and were defeated by a score of 53-61. Hector Perez dropped 24 points and 7 assists in the contest. Noah Ayala had 10 rebounds and 9 points against the Bears.
Their next contest would be against the Gadsden Panthers out of New Mexico. The Warriors would lose a double overtime thriller by a score of 75-83. Perez had a record breaking night scoring 40 points off 9 three-pointers. His outing made him the new ICS record holder in points scored in a game and three-point field goals made in a game. Ben Story also had a big night with 17 points and 7 assists. Ayala also controlled the glass with 14 rebounds and had 9 points.
The final game of the tournament came against the Irvin Rockets, which turned out to be another overtime game resulting in a 49-50 loss for the Warriors. Three Warriors scored in double figures: Ben Story with 19 points, Hector Perez with 12 points, and Noah Ayala with 10 points. Ayala completed a double-double with 16 rebounds on the night.
The Warriors have now completed the 2023 portion of their season and will now look to their 6 district games. Before they face Amarillo Collegiate Academy on January 12th, they will warm-up against the Ft. Hancock Mustangs on January 5th!
