From December 12th-14th, the Varsity Men's Basketball team participated in the 2024 Van Horn Tournament.
Their first opponent, was a stout Academia Juarez Lobo team, whom the Warriors defeated by a 46-41 margin. Ben Story was the leading scorer with 16 points. Noah Ayala had the team leading 9 rebounds, while Carlos Acuna had 5 assists and 4 steals.
Thursday's win set up a match between the Warriors and Sanderson Eagles. The Warriors would dominate the Eagles by a score of 70-39. Three Warriors scored in double digits: Jonas Laffan with 18 points, Ben Story with 18 points, and Carlos Acuna with 11 points. Laffan completed a double-double with 11 rebounds in the game. Acuna had a team high 8 assists.
The team would face the Tornillo Coyotes for the second time this season in the Championship game of the tournament. The margin of victory was larger than the last meeting with the Warriors winning 67-43. Acuna had 14 points off of 4 made three-pointers, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals. Story had 11 points and 3 steals of his own.
Story was named Tournament MVP while Acuna, Ayala, and Jayson Chang were all named to the All-Tournament Team!
