2024 Van Horn Tourney women's team

Varsity Women Finish 2nd in Van Horn Tourney

Last weekend the Warriors participated in the Van Horn Basketball Tournament. 

They opened up play against the Marfa Shorthorns on Thursday, winning 32-25. T'Mara Simon had 15 points and 15 rebounds in the game, along with 2 blocks. Kezia Rayon had 9 points and 7 steals. Valeria Escobar had 9 rebounds and 2 steals for herself in the game, while Aubrie Donahue had 4 steals to her name. 

The following day featured an early morning matchup between the Lady Warriors and the Sanderson Eagles. The Eagles would not be able to overcome the Warriors losing 35-29. Rayon was the days leading scorer with 11 points, adding on 9 steals. Simon had another double-double, finishing with 10 points and 19 rebounds. 

Our Warriors met the Van Horn Eagles in the semifinal round of the tournament, avenging their earlier loss this season and defeating the Eagles 23-21. Simon was the leading scorer with 8 points. She had 14 rebounds in the contest. Rayon added 4 steals to the game. With this win, the Warriors were set to face the Academia Juarez Lobos in the Championship game. 

The Warriors would struggle to get the offense going, losing to the Lobos in the championship by a score of 17-62. Simon and Rayon were both named to the All-Tournament Team!
