The ICS Varsity Women's Volleyball team spent the last weekend in Wink, TX, participating in the Wink Best of the West Volleyball Tournament, where they would eventually take 2nd place after dropping their first game of the year to the Wink Wildcats 1-2. The Lady Warriors did not lose a single set until the Championship Game, defeating Klondike, McCamey, Sierra Blanca, Buena Vista, and Forsan. Seniors Andrea Ortega and Ariana Vazquez led the way on offiense, averaging 7.2 and 7.5 kills over 6 games respectively. Both Vazquez and newcomer Olivia Bell each averaged more than 1 block per game. Senior Mia Bell averaged a strong 19 assists per match over the weekend.
On Thursday in their match against Klondike, Ortega and Vazquez each had 7 kills. Carla Sousa had 10 digs in the contest. Ortega had 9 kills in Game 2 against McCamey while Mia Bell had 20 assists. Game 3 saw the Warriors take down Sierra Blanca with the help of 6 aces from Vazquez.
On Friday, the Warriors started the afternoon with a win over Buena Vista. Vazquez had 10 kills, Yareli Lopez had 6 aces, and Grace Jackson had 9 digs in the contest. In the Semifinal contest against Forsan, Vazquez and Olivia Bell had 4 and 3 blocks respectively.
Wink provided the best competition the Warriors have seen this season in the Championship game. Vazquez notched an incredible 18 kills, while Ortega dropped 11 kills of her own. Olivia Bell had 4 important blocks, while Ortega and Vazquez each had 2. Mia Bell contributed an assists 27 times on the evening.
The Warriors will face the Bel Air Highlanders on August 20th at 7 PM (JV at 6 PM) in Dave Frazier Memorial Gym!
