The Immanuel Christian Warriors showcased their speed, endurance, and strength at the Cathedral/Loretto Invitational, held on February 28th and March 1st. Both the boys' and girls' teams put in impressive performances across multiple events, with several athletes setting new personal records (PRs) while demonstrating their dedication and continuous improvement.
Boys' Team Highlights
In the 100-meter Open Prelims, Josecarlos Samaniego clocked 12.85 seconds (PR), while Jeremiah Alarcon finished in 12.77 seconds, and Alam Canales ran 13.34 seconds. Gael Quinonez had a standout performance in the 100-meter Freshman Finals, setting a new PR of 12.29 seconds and finishing fifth.
The 200-meter Open Finals saw Josecarlos Samaniego secure a fifth-place finish with a PR of 25.68 seconds. In the 200-meter Freshman Finals, Gael Quinonez placed ninth, running 26.98 seconds, after setting a PR of 26.54 seconds in the prelims.
The 400-meter races brought another series of strong performances for the Warriors. Jonathan Munoz ran a fantastic race in the 400-meter Freshman Finals, setting a new PR of 59.68 seconds and finishing seventh. In the 400-meter Open Prelims, Alam Canales also set a PR of 1:02.47, while Christian Dulanto finished in 1:02.81, and Adam Garduna ran 1:08.06.
The distance events were another highlight for the Warriors. In the 1600-meter Open Finals, Christian Dulanto recorded a PR of 5:32.17, finishing eighth, while Lane Bakken followed with his own PR of 5:40.70, placing eleventh. Freshman Jonathan Munoz continued his impressive streak, running 5:30.98 (PR) in the 1600-meter Freshman Finals to secure a runner-up finish. He carried this momentum into the 3200-meter Freshman Finals, where he posted a time of 11:40.69, earning another second-place finish.
In the 3200-meter Open Finals, Lane Bakken finished tenth with a time of 12:53.58, putting in another solid performance for the Warriors.
In the field events, senior Benjamin Frecka put up a strong showing in the long jump, achieving a PR of 16 feet, 1.25 inches, while also competing in the shot put. Jonas Laffan threw 28 feet, 5 inches, while Yurem Saenz set a PR with a throw of 24 feet, 2 inches.
Girls' Team Highlights
The Warrior girls' team also had a strong showing at the meet, with multiple athletes delivering impressive performances.
In the 100-meter Open Finals, Aubrie Donahue placed sixth with a time of 15.17 seconds, after running a PR of 15.01 seconds in the prelims.
The 100-meter Freshman Finals saw two Warriors in competition, with Valeria Escobar finishing fifth in 15.26 seconds, and Kezia Rayon placing ninth with a time of 16.76 seconds. Escobar had earlier recorded a PR of 15.01 seconds in the prelims, while Rayon clocked a PR of 15.61 seconds to qualify. Athena Hurlbert also competed in the prelims, finishing in 17.83 seconds.
In the 200-meter Open Prelims, Aubrie Donahue set a PR of 34.07 seconds.
The 200-meter Freshman Finals featured Valeria Escobar, who placed sixth with a PR of 32.67 seconds, and Kezia Rayon, who finished ninth in 36.12 seconds. Athena Hurlbert also competed, recording a time of 42.11 seconds in the prelims.
