Immanuel Participates in Hussmann Tournament at Franklin High School

Immanuel Christian's Varsity Volleyball team tested themselves on one of El Paso's biggest stages this past weekend, competing in the prestigious Hussmann Tournament hosted by Franklin High School. The event annually brings together some of the strongest programs in the region, offering the Warriors a valuable chance to measure themselves against top-tier competition from across El Paso and beyond.

Pool Play – Friday, August 29

Pebble Hills 2, Immanuel Christian 0 (25–17, 25–23)

The Warriors opened the tournament against the 6A Pebble Hills Spartans. After a slow start in the first set, ICS found its rhythm in the second behind the offensive efforts of senior Lucia Munoz, who tallied 5 kills, and sophomore Jade Garcia, who added 3 kills. Addison Kern steadied the defense with 8 receptions and 4 digs, while setter Lilia Ramirez contributed 11 assists in the match.

Las Cruces 2, Immanuel Christian 0 (25–19, 25–15)

In their second contest, ICS faced a powerhouse in Las Cruces, the top-ranked 5A team in New Mexico. Despite the tough challenge, the Warriors battled point for point early in the first set. Carla Sousa-Travieso provided a spark with 2 kills and 5 digs, while Ramirez again directed the offense with 6 assists. Defensively, Kern anchored the back row with 14 receptions, and Yareli Lopez added 12.

Santa Teresa 2, Immanuel Christian 0 (25–13, 25–21)

Closing out Friday's pool play, the Warriors showed their resilience against Santa Teresa. Sousa-Travieso led the team with 8 kills and 5 digs, while Garcia chipped in 3 kills and 3 digs of her own. Ramirez kept the offense flowing with a tournament-high 16 assists, while Lopez delivered 10 digs and 18 receptions. Though ICS rallied late in the second set, the Desert Warriors sealed the sweep.

Silver Bracket – Friday & Saturday, August 29–30

El Dorado 3, Immanuel Christian 0 (25–12, 25–19, 25–18)

Moving into bracket play Friday evening, ICS squared off with the El Dorado Aztecs. Munoz and Garcia paced the offense with 3 kills apiece, while Ramirez added 9 assists. Defensively, Lopez collected 8 receptions and 8 digs, and Patty Corona contributed 5 digs in extended back row duty.

Andress 3, Immanuel Christian 1 (25–21, 21–25, 25–14, 25–16)

On Saturday morning, the Warriors earned their strongest performance of the weekend against Andress, pushing the Eagles to four sets. Garcia had a breakout match, finishing with 11 kills, while Sousa-Travieso added 10. Ramirez fueled the attack with 29 assists, and Kern notched 15 digs and 32 receptions. Lopez added 19 digs to highlight a determined defensive effort.

Hanks 3, Immanuel Christian 0 (25–23, 25–18, 25–18)

ICS closed its tournament against the Hanks Knights in a competitive three-set battle. Kern and Garcia each tallied 5 kills, with Munoz adding 6. Ramirez dished out 18 assists, and Sousa-Travieso chipped in 6 kills and 11 digs. Lopez once again led the back row with 13 digs and 18 receptions, keeping rallies alive against a strong Knights offense.

Though the Warriors came away without a win, the Hussmann Tournament provided invaluable experience against some of the region's most competitive programs.
